Somebody is peckish... ten lambs waiting for me to bring them breakfast!

Sadly, their holiday with us is nearly over. They’ll be heading back to their owners next week, having done the job of grazing @wild.pinebeck field and wood, ready for new wild flowers to grow! 🤞🏽🌸🌼

I’ll be really sad to see them go. They’re such characters! Who knew #sheep could be so funny?!

I’m so delighted to be picked for this month’s @thetravellingreaderbookboxes - which is from West Yorkshire. My second psychological thriller, ‘The Stolen Child’ is set in Ilkley and on Ilkley Moor. I wrote a letter to readers about the location and my inspiration (think Yeats, rowan trees and faeries, as well as child abduction), which I’ve posted on my blog (link in the bio : www.sanjida.co.uk)

I loved all the gifts, especially the fudge (!) and the attention to detail - gorgeous bookmark with a quote from Yeats on the back and postcard of the Cow and Calf rock on Ilkley Moor. 🙏🏽

Feed me! The lambs’ antics are distracting me from my writing! Our ten visitors bombed around the field and Lilac Wood. One immediately climbed on a pile of horse chestnut logs, then felt a bit wobbly and had to be helped down! 🤣 They quickly recovered their balance, and have been climbing, goat-like, over the ruined miners’ cottages. Apparently brambles are like chocolate to them and they’ve been getting tangled up in the briars, velcro-ing themselves to each other, and me, when I try and free them! Hmmm, sheep sleeping beauties!?

I absolutely loved Bridget Collins’ first adult novel, ‘The Binding’. Her second, ‘The Betrayals’ is inspired by one of my favourite books, ‘The Glass-Bead Game’ by Herman Hesse. In a castle on the top of a mountain, where the air is thin, scholars play the ‘grand jeu’, a game of maths and music that illuminates beauty and the divine. A failed politician and ex-grand-jeu gold medalist, and the first female head Magister Ludi meet for the first time, yet feel an odd connection to one another. Both have built their lives on secrets and betrayals, which will come to a head at the Midsummer Games.

It’s bookish, beautifully-written, immersive and sensuous, if not quite as startlingly original as ‘The Binding’. Highly recommended.
